Tough Road Trip for the Ice Dawgs
The high school Ice Dawgs headed to Bozeman for a quartet of games over the weekend. The Dawgs would play Bozeman Black Friday night and Saturday Morning, then play Bozeman Red Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Game one saw Glasgow fall to a very good Black team 6-1. Glasgow was out shot a whooping 94 to 19! The lone Ice Dawg goal was scored by Braden Barstad unassisted in the second period. Harley Eliason was in net for the Glasgow making 88 saves in the loss. The Ice Dawgs were also beaten in game 2, falling to Bozeman 12-1. Once again, Braden Barstad had the lone Glasgow goal with an assist being credited to Peter Breigenzer. The Dawgs were again out shot by a wide margin, 78 to 8, with Nate Sharrett making 66 saves in the loss.
In the first game against Bozeman Red on Saturday afternoon, the Dawgs kept it close through the first and second periods, but Bozeman dominated the third to take a 8-4 win. In the first period, Peter Breigenzer and Ryan Padden scored with Braden Barstad assisting on both goals. Aaron Roble also assisted on Breigenzer’s goal and Barstad picked up an assist on Padden’s goal. Breigenzer scored an unassisted power play goal in the second period and Padden found the back of the net in the third. Glasgow was out shot 56 to 35 with Eliason making 48 saves in the loss. Tired legs, and injuries caught up to Glasgow in the second game against the Bozeman Red as they once again came out on the wrong side of the score sheet. Bozeman dominated the first period scoring 8 goals to Glasgow’s lone tally that came from Ryan Padden with Barstad assisting. Eliason came into the Ice Dawg net in relief of Nate Sharrett at the beginning of the second period. Padden scored again in the second with assists going to Koby Liedholt and Tyler Wesen. Bozeman scored 3 more in the second and third periods to take the win in convincing fashion. Glasgow was out shot 60 to 13 in the 11-2 loss.
This was a difficult weekend for the Ice Dawgs, taking four losses on the road, as well as suffering several injuries that included a concussion, an elbow full stitches, and a broken collar bone. The Ice Dawg High School team will be back in action this weekend playing Havre in Miles City.
1-15-12 High School Ice Dawgs hit the road
The Glasgow Ice Dawg High School team headed to Billings for a pair of games against the Bulls this weekend. The Bulls dominated the Dawgs in game 1 defeating Glasgow 8-0. Harley Eliason, in the Ice Dawg net, faced an onslaught of shots. The Dawgs let 72 shots get to their goalkeeper, including 32 in the second period! Glasgow was outshot 72-10, with Eliason making 64 saves in the loss. Game 2 saw Quinn Hopkin, of Miles City, take his turn in the Ice Dawg goalie rotation. Glasgow managed to put nearly 3 times as many shots on net as in game 1, and Ryan Padden scored a goal with and assists going to Peter Breigenzer and Bjorn Briggs. The Dawgs were outshot 40-28 with Hopkin making 31 saves in the 9-1 loss. Glasgow’s High School team heads to Bozeman next weekend for a quartet of games against their Ice Dogs.
Ice Dawg High School Team Earns First Win

The Glasgow Ice Dawg High School team hit the road this weekend to face off against Havre and Great Falls. Game one saw the Dawgs face rivals Havre in a Friday night game. Glasgow scored two goals early in the first with Tyler Wesen and Ryan Padden finding the back of the net with assists going to Sawyer Hillman and Peter Breigenzer. Havre scored twice as well to take two-two tie going into the second. Glasgow net minder Harley Eliason faced an onslaught of shots, but would not allow another Havre goal in the second or third periods. The Dawgs scored two more in the second to extend their lead . Padden beat the Ice Hawk goalie with assist going to Peter Breigenzer, and Koby Leidholt scored with an assist going to Kyle Schultz. Glasgow got another goal late in the third when Connor Simensen put one past the goalie after receiving the puck from Tyler Wesen. Despite being out shot fifty to twenty-two the Dawgs took the five- two win for their first victory of the year. Eliason made forty-eight saves in the winning effort.
Game two had a different outcome as Glasgow was defeated handily by Havre seven to two. Havre scored six goals in the first and second periods and was able to hold Glasgow scoreless. In the third period, the Dawgs were able to score twice, but it was to little to late. Austin Svingen scored with an assist going to Ryan Padden, and Padden scored unassisted. Havre did score one goal in the third to take the seven-two win. Glasgow was again out shot significantly with Nate Sharrett making forty-six saves in the loss.
Next, Glasgow headed down the road to face the Great Falls Americans for a pair of games. Game one saw the Dawgs go down in defeat eleven-zero. Nate Sharrett started that game in net stopping forty of fifty Great Falls shots before being replaced late in the second period by Harley Eliason. Eliason stopped twenty-four of twenty-five including all nineteen shots in the third period.
Glasgow faced Great Falls again on Sunday morning for the last game of the road trip, and were again defeated by the Americans eight-one. Peter Breigenzer scored the lone Ice Dawg goal with an assist going to Koby Leidholt. Glasgow was again out-shot by a wide margin, fifty-four to five, with Harley Eliason making forty-six saves in the loss.
Ice Dawg High School Team Opens at Home Against Bozeman

Glasgow opened the high school hockey season with a quartet of games against the Bozeman Ice Dog Black and Red squads over the weekend at the Valley Event Center. In an effort the fill the roster, this years team is made up of players from both Glasgow and Miles City. The Friday night and Saturday morning games saw Glasgow face the powerful Bozeman Black squad. Both games ended in losses for the home town Dawgs . Game one saw Nate Sharrett in the net, making 35 saves in the 7-0 loss. Harley Eliason manned the crease in game two, and made 45 saves in the 8-0 loss for the Dawgs.
On Saturday evening the Dawgs came out ready to play against Bozeman’s Red team. Bozeman scored one goal in the first and two in the second period. Glasgow kept the game within reach as Ryan Padden scored after receiving a pass form Koby Liedholt with three minutes remaining in the second. Early in the third, Padden scored once again to bring the home team to within one goal of the opposition. Bozeman countered with three goals of their own to take the win. Eliason made 37 saves in the 6-2 loss. Glasgow was in penalty trouble throughout the game amassing 12 separate penalties totaling 32 minutes. This kept the Dawgs offensive opportunities at a minimum as the team was forced to focus on the defensive zone.
The last game of this four game home stand took place Sunday morning with Glasgow versus Bozeman Red for a second time. In the first period, Peter Breigenzer scored a goal with an assist going to Braden Barstad, and Daulton Peterson scored unassisted to take a 2-2 tie into the second. Bozeman scored twice more in the second. Koby Liedholt found the back of the net with assists going to Padden and Aaron Roble to keep it close. The Bozeman again put the pressure on in the third, scoring four goals to defeat the Ice Dawgs 8-3. Sharrett made 19 saves in the loss.
In the first three games Glasgow was out shot by a wide margin, but in game four the home team nearly matched the shots taken by Bozeman. In another positive, Glasgow also kept the penalties to a minimum in the final game. This was a difficult weekend for Glasgow, dropping four in a row, and seeing three Ice Dawgs players leave the ice with injuries. The team will be back in action during the weekend of December 16 as they travel to face Havre and Great Falls on their home ice.
