The Valley Event Center hosts the Pee Wee State Tourney, Glasgow takes 4th

Glasgow hosted the state Pee Wee A and B tournament over the weekend. The Valley Event Center hosted 16 games starting Friday morning and wrapping up Sunday afternoon. Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, and Miles City made up the B division, while Glasgow, Havre, Helena and Missoula comprised the A division. In game 1, Glasgow faced off against the Ice Hawks of Havre. Havre took the early lead in the first period, but the Ice Dawgs responded with a goal from Taylor Padden to tie it up in the second. Padden scored early in the third with an assist going to Jordan Kulczyk to take the lead. With 8 minutes remaining, Havre scored their second to tie the game. Neither  team found the back of the net from that point on, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Casey Mattfeldt made 46 saves for the Dawgs.

Glasgow’s second game was against the top ranked Missoula Bruins. Glasgow held the Bruins to 3 goals through 2 periods, but were unable to get the puck behind the Missoula net minder. In the third, Missoula dominated the play scoring 5 goals to take the 8-0 win. Glasgow was out shot 53 to 7, with Mattfeldt making 45 saves in the loss.

 In the last game of pool play the Dawgs hit the ice against the Helena Big Horns. Once again, Glasgow was out shot by a wide margin and were unable score. Helena took the 12-0 victory in convincing fashion.  Mattfeldt made 41 saves for Glasgow.

In a Sunday morning game, Glasgow faced off against Havre once again for third place in Pee Wee A.  Havre scored twice in the first and were able to hold the home town Dawgs scoreless. Glasgow got on the board early in the second when Jordan Kulczyk scored with assists going to Taylor Padden and Cooper Allen.  Havre beat the Dawg goalie twice in the second to take a 4-1 lead heading into the third.  Neither team scored in the final period giving Havre the win, and third place in tourney.  Mattfeldt played well once again, and was credited with 56 saves.

In the A division Missoula took first, followed by Helena, Havre and Glasgow. In the B division, Butte took home the first place trophy followed by Bozeman, Great Falls and Miles City.

Pee Wee Ice Dawgs Head to Billings

Over the weekend the Pee Wee team headed to Billings for invitational tourney prior the state tournament that will be held in Glasgow next weekend. Making the trip were Casey Mattfeldt, Taylor Padden, Jordan Kulczyk, Sean Covall, Kaden Fossum, Garret Lloyd, Hunter Losleben, Ethan Stone, Grant Morken, Teagan Fossum, Merrick Eliason, Marshall Bragg and Wyatt Mattfeldt.  Game one saw Glasgow face off against the Wild from Gillette, Wyoming. It looked to be a pretty good matchup. Unfortunately,  the Dawgs just did not look ready to play,  and were soundly defeated 6-0. Casey Mattfeldt made 34 saves in the loss.   In game two, Glasgow would face the Chiefs of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Once again, the Dawgs were dominated in all phases of the game being outshot 59 to 6. Final score,  9-1 Chiefs. Mattfeldt made 50 saves and Taylor Padden scored the lone Glasgow goal unassisted.

In the final game of round robin play Glasgow hit the ice against the home town Billings Bulls. Billings came into the game with one loss and one tie to Glasgow’s two losses. The Ice Dawgs finally found their stride and came out firing on all cylinders.  The Dawgs jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead with goals coming from Ethan Stone and Taylor Padden.  Billings attempted a comeback in the second scoring two goals of their own, but Jordan Kulczyk scored twice for Glasgow to maintain the lead. Kaden Fossum and Marshall Bragg were credited with assists on Kulczyk’s goals. The Bulls scored early in the third, but once again Glasgow countered with two goals of their own. Padden scored with an assist going to Grant Morken, and Wyatt Mattfeldt found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Kulczyk. Casey Mattfeldt made 27 saves in the win. With the win, the Ice Dawgs were to play the Bulls once again for third place.  Both teams stepped up the defense and the first period ended in a 0-0 tie. In the second, Billings scored twice to Padden’s lone goal for Glasgow. In the third, playing from behind, the Dawg D and goalie stepped it up and did not allow another Billings goal. Padden scored twice more with an assist going to Kulczyk to take the come from behind win to secure 3rd place in the tourney. Mattfeldt made 32 saves for the win.

Next weekend, Glasgow will host the Montana Amateur Hockey Association Pee Wee A and B state tournament.  Eight teams from around the state will be gathering in Glasgow for a full slate of games at the Valley Event Center starting Friday morning. The Dawgs will be playing in the A division, and play their first game Friday at noon.  Come out to support the home team and enjoy some hockey.

 
 
Pee Wee Ice Dawgs go 2-1-1 in Weekend Action

 

The Ice Dawg Pee Wee team had a full weekend of hockey. The team played a pair against Miles City on Saturday, then heading to Havre for two more games on Sunday.  Glasgow defeated Miles City 8-1 in the first game. Taylor Padden scored 5 goals and was also credited with an assist for a 6 point game. Jordan Kulczyc, Kaden Fossum, and Lane Provencher also found the back of the net. Taylor Johnson, Tegan Fossum, Wyatt Mattfeldt, and Shane Sinclair contributed assists as well. Casey Mattfeldt made 13 saves in the win. Game two also ended in an Ice Dawg victory as Glasgow beat Miles City 6-1. Padden scored twice more and contributed another helper in game two.  Johnson score 3 for the hat trick and Kulczyk also added a goal. Assists were credited to Proverncher, Sean Covall, Kaden Fossum and Marshall Bragg. Mattfeldt made 10 saves.

Game 1 against Havre had a different outcome as the Dawgs fell in defeat 3-1 to the Ice Hawks. Kulczyk scored the lone goal for Glasgow with an assist going to Padden. Mattfeldt made 12 saves in the loss. The second game was a back and forth affair that ended in an 8-8 tie. Havre scored first, but less than a minute later Padden scored unassisted to tie it up. That was the theme of the entire game. Back and forth for 45 minutes with neither team able to maintain a lead for long. Padden scored 5 and earned an assist for another 6 point game, Kulczyk scored 2 along with an assist, and Provencer also beat the Havre goalie. Ethan Hartsock and Marshall Bragg were also credited with 1 assist apiece. Casey Mattfeldt made 26 saves in the Ice Dawg net.  The Dawgs will be back in action on January 28th as they face Bozeman for a pair of games at the Valley Event Center. Glasgow will also be hosting the MAHA Pee Wee A and B state tournament February 24-26, comprised of 8 teams from around the state.

 

 
 
 
 
 
Pee Wees Win Two in Miles City

The Glasgow Ice Dawg Pee Wee team closed out the year with a pair of wins on the road against the Miles City Generals. In the Sunday morning game, the Dawgs beat the Generals seven-zip. In the first, Glasgow’s Jordan Kulczyk found the back of the net with an assist going to Taylor Padden, and in the second, Taylor Johnson scored unassisted. The third period saw an offensive explosion from the Dawgs as they scored five goals. Taylor Padden was credited with three goal to earn the hat trick. Ethan Hartsock scored with assists going to Grant Morken and Kaden Fossum, and Grant Morken beat the Miles City net minder with an assist going to Jordan Kulczyk. Glasgow kept the penalties to a minimum with Wyat Mattfeldt and Grant Morken being called for roughing, and Jordan Kulczyk finding her way to penalty box for slashing. Ethan Stone made six saves to earn the win.

Game two started with Miles City scoring an early goal but Glasgow came back to tie it up six minutes later as Taylor Padden scored after receiving a pass from Marshall Bragg. The first period ended in a one-one tie. Early in the second, Padden scored once again to take the lead for the Dawgs. Glasgow continued to pressure the Generals, scoring twice more as Ethan Stone and Jordan Kulczyk both beat the Miles City goalie with assists going to Shane Sinclair and Taylor Padden respectively. With a four-one lead heading into the third, Glasgow continued to pressure the Generals. Wyatt Mattfeldt scored unassisted, Padden scored his third goal on an assist from Bryce Legare. Penalties picked up for both teams with Miles City being called eight times and Glasgow five. Glasgow was called for checking three times with Grant Morken, Cooper Allen, and Wyatt Mattfeld spending time in the box, and Bryce Legare and Merrick Eliason were called for roughing and slashing respectively. Taylor Johnson made 18 saves in the six -one Ice Dawg victory. This brings the Dawgs record to six and two. The team will be back in action against Miles City on January 14 at the Valley Event Center.

 
 
Ice Dawg Pee Wee Team Drops a Pair at Home

The Ice Dawgs started the season 4-0 and hoped to remain undefeated when they hosted the Havre Ice Hawks over the weekend for a pair of games. In the Saturday night game Havre came out and dominated the first and second periods taking a 4-0 lead into the third.  Glasgow was able to get sixteen shots on the Ice Hawk net, but their goal tender stopped them all. Early in the third, Grant Morken scored for the Dawgs with an assist going to Taylor Padden. Cooper Allen also scored in the 3rd for Glasgow with the assist being credited to Marshall Bragg.  Havre found the back of the net twice more to hand Glasgow their first loss of the season. Casey Mattfeldt made 17 saves for Glasgow in the 6-2 loss.

The Sunday morning game saw another outstanding effort from Havre as they again outplayed Glasgow. The Ice Hawks scored 3 goals in each of the first two periods. The Dawgs were only able to muster one goal in the second as Kaden Fossum scored on an assist from Marshall Bragg. Havre went on to score another four goals in the final period to defeat Glasgow handily. As the game went on, things got chippy, with both teams being called for several penalties. One penalty resulted in a Havre player being ejected from the game and suspended for their next league game. Casey Mattfeldt made 22 saves in the 10-1 loss. The Glasgow Pee Wee team will be on the road to face the Miles City General next weekend.

Ice Dawgs Open the 2011-2012 Season

This Saturday the Glasgow Ice Dawg Pee Wee team opened their season with a pair of wins over the Great Falls Americans. This year’s Pee Wee team consists of Cooper Allen, Marshall Bragg, Sean Covall, Merrick Eliason, Kaden Fossum, Teagan Fossum, Ethan Hartsock, Taylor Johnson, Jordan Kulczyk, Bryce Legare, Garrett Lloyd, Hunter Losleben, Casey Mattfeldt, Wyatt Mattfeldt, Grant Morken, Taylor Padden, Shane Sinclair, Ethan Stone and Lane Provencher. Game one saw Glasgow jump out to an early lead with Eliason scoring with an assist going to his defensive partner Legare.  Legare earned another assist on Padden’s first of two goals in the period. Bragg scored at the four minute mark of the first after receiving a pass from Wyatt Mattfeldt. Hartsock was called for elbowing midway through the period. Great Falls scored twice in an effort to stay with the Dawgs. Glasgow came out firing in the second, scoring six goals. Padden scored two more along with Johnson, Eliason, Bragg, and Mattfeldt. Kaden Fossum, Lloyd, and Provencher all earned assists. Once again Great Falls scored twice as they struggled to maintain Glasgow’s pace. With a 10-4 lead heading into the final period, the Dawgs continued to work hard, scoring four more. Padden found the back of the net twice more, Eliason scored on an assist from Losleben, and Wyatt Mattfeldt scored unassisted. Legare and Eliason each earned time in the penalty box for checking. Final score, 14-5 Glasgow. Casey Mattfeldt earned the win in the Dawg’s net.

 

In the second game Great Falls controlled the play in the first period scoring once and shutting down the Dawg’s offense. Eliason was called for tripping and Glasgow was able to kill the penalty to keep it close. Provencher scored early in the second period to tie it, but Great Falls countered with a goal of their own just twenty five seconds later.  Johnson beat the Great Falls goalie twice to take the lead with assists going to Mattfeldt and Bragg. Kulczyk was called for checking, and once again the Dawg penalty killers were successful. In the third, Glasgow completely shut down the opposition holding them scoreless in spite of two penalties to Bragg for roughing and hooking, and one to Eliason for roughing.  With five minutes remaining in the game, Mattfeldt scored unassisted to increase the lead. Allen scored thirty seconds later with assists going to Kulczyk and Teagan Fossum. After a slow start, the Ice Dawgs were able to rebound and defeat the Americans 5-2.  In the Ice Dawg net, Casey Mattfeldt earned his second win. The Ice Dawgs will face the Americans once again next weekend in Great Falls, and be back on home ice on December third to face the Havre Ice Hawks.
