On Saturday afternoon the Ice Dawg Squirts faced the Rangers of Sidney for a non league game. The Dawgs fell in defeat as they just could not keep pace with the Rangers who took a lopsided 2-14 win. Glasgow was out shot 46-5, but 2 of those five shots beat the Ranger net minder with Merrick Eliason and Bryce Legare both scoring unassisted in the second period. Colton Pewitt and Casey Mattfeldt shared the goal tending duties for the Dawgs making a combined 32 saves. Despite the score, the team played pretty well at times, but just could not keep pace with the older and more experienced team from Sidney. The Squirts will travel to Butte next weekend to play a pair of league games.

Lets Play Hockey! 2010-2011
The sound of skates on the ice, pucks on the boards, and the yells of excited young players once again fill the Valley Event Center in Glasgow. The first games of the 2010-2011 hockey season were played by the Ice Dawg squirt team as they faced off against the Big Horns of Helena this past weekend. This years squirt team is made up of Noah Lipszyc, Cooper Allen, Bridger Barnett, Addison Bragg, Bobby Bragg, Sean Covall, Merrick Eliason, Brit Fairclough, Kaden Fossum, Oden Hallock, Ethan Hartsock, Taylor Johnson, Casey Mattfeldt, Logan McCoy, Ty Murphy, Pacyn Partridge, Colton Pewitt, Shane Sinclair, and Ethan Stone.
The Saturday afternoon game was an action packed back and forth affair. Five minutes into the first period Eliason beat the Helena goalie after receiving a pass from Partridge to take the early lead. That lead did not last long as the Big Horns scored shortly after that to tie it up. Partridge scored at the 7 minute mark with an assist going to Fossum to regain the lead. Once again, late in the period, Helena got one behind Mattfeldt to tie it up heading into the second period. The second period saw a flurry of goals as the Big Horns scored five times including one power play goal when Stone was called for a trip. Glasgow was able to score three times with unassisted goals going to both Eliason and Partridge. That pair also teamed up when Partridge scored his hat trick goal after receiving a pass from Eliason. Early in the third, Johnson scored unassisted only to be countered as Helena scored only 23 seconds later. Partridge beat the Big Horn goalie twice more, one of those being short handed with Eliason in the box on an interference call. Helena scored once more to hand the Dawgs a hard fought 8-9 loss. Mattfeldt made 14 saves in the loss.
Early Sunday morning the teams faced off once again with the Dawgs hoping to send the Big Horns home in defeat. Ten minutes into the first period Eliason was called for body checking and headed for the box. The Dawgs were able to score short handed as Fairclough found the twine on an assist from Fossum. As the penalty drew to an end Helena scored to tie the game going into the second period. Helena scored twice early in the second, but Partridge scored unassisted for Glasgow to keep it close. With two minutes left in the period the Big Horns scored again to take a two goal lead. Partridge was called for hooking with 45 seconds remaining. Glasgow killed that penalty, but Helena scored at the eleven minute mark in the third to stretch their lead to three. With four minutes left Johnson scored with an assist going to Partridge. Late in the third with the Ice Dawgs preparing to pull the goalie to get an extra attacker Eliason was once again led away to the penalty box on a roughing call. The game ended in a 3-5 loss for the home team. Mattfeldt made 12 saves. Despite the two losses, the team played very well and had fun. With only a week’s worth of practice under their belt they did remarkably well. The Dawgs Squirts will face Bozeman at 6:00 pm Saturday and 8:00am Sunday, and the Bantams will open their season against Great Falls at 10:00am and 4:00pm on Saturday. Come out to the Valley Event Center this weekend and enjoy some hockey. Events Listing
